Gretchen

Gretchen was a miniature rust colored dachshund from my childhood. I always liked how she was so long she could use herself as a pillow.

Embroidery...

...seems pretty daunting. But today I was at the art supply store and saw the cute little hoops and rainbow assortment of yarns and threads and floss and...

This ended with me buying embroidery supplies and an attempt at some simple translations of doodles into fibers works.

Here is attempt one with the muse. I used Running stitch, Back stitch, and Whipped running stitch.

sweets n treats

What is your favorite sweet / treat? My favorite WAS Oreo's until I recently overheard someone talking about the Oreo filling as being pure chemical Crisco.  Now, I knew they were not healthy, and I would only eat them every once an a while, but that description of the filling has really stuck in my brain.  I guess I'll have to try the T. Joe's Oreo alternative.

PS. Butter. It's not really a sweet OR a treat, unless of course you go state fair style (san diego...eh hem..) and enjoy battered butter on a stick. Whaaat!!? Funnel cake IS however an acceptable state fair snack, and one I accidentally forgot to include in the doodle. Better yet still, just go for chili powdered mango on a stick. Health is wealth!

Summerhead

I cut it myself little by little over the course of two weeks. Took a detour through the 90's, but ended up with something that looks timeless and classic. Light summer hair.

New Sketchpage

The sketchbook is starting to look a bit like a coloring book. I did always love those Richard Scarry books with pages packed full of labeled objects. In his world worms drove tiny apple cars and wore most adorable hats. His book, "Best Storybook Ever" is always on my desk.

Pink lady apples and loquats off the tree

The Japanese Elm tree out back makes for perfect dappled light, and it really is the place to be when one stays home during the day. I drink my coffee there, sit with the dogs, occasionally pull out the yoga mat, and often I'll make some doodles in the book. These fruits were the snack of the day.

Brunch doodles

Saturday was a warm breezy day, and we went to the local cafe with Ladybird and the sketchbook for coffee, mimosas, and morning snacks (soyrizo potato tacos!). Ladybird studies by Heather in the top row, Cat studies by Jason in the second row, misc creatures make up the rest.

Trying to clean up my diet, but it's hard when taters are so swell. You are what you eat!

Ladybird doodle of the day

When the dog barks, when the bee stings, when I'm feeling sad. I simply remember my favorite things, and then I don't feel so bad. With a fresh lime marg on the side of course.
